Margaret M. Peters, 90, of Bettendorf passed away on Monday, March 11, 2024.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 18th at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be next to her husband, Loren, at Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Congregation of the Humility of Mary, Davenport.
Margaret was born on November 5, 1933 in Turtle Lake, North Dakota, the daughter of Edward and Olive (Reber) Goven. Following high school, she achieved her bachelor’s degree in home economics, with a minor in food science, from North Dakota State University.
On June 21, 1954, she married Loren W. Peters in Underwood, North Dakota. Together they raised five children. Margaret later owned and operated a cosmetic and florist shop and was also a seamstress. She was a former member of the Homemakers Club of the Quad Cities and long-term member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Margaret enjoyed cooking great meals for family gatherings, camping, bird watching, and helping others. She will be fondly remembered for her sage advice to “Keep moving and eat your vegetables!”
Those left to honor her memory are her children, Michael (Loretta) Peters of California, Sandra (Dan) Weigel of Michigan, and David (Liza) Peters of Bettendorf; seven grandchildren; sons-in-law, John DeVoe of Iowa and Jim Fleming of Arizona; and siblings, Carol Doyle of Virginia and Earl (Darlene) Goven of North Dakota.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Loren; daughters, Carmen DeVoe and Teresa Peters-Fleming; and siblings, Dorothy Frost, Eileen Busch, Bernice Moriarty, Jane Senger, Donald Goven, John Goven, and Richard Goven.
