Margaret Simms

Margaret A. Simms, 86, a resident of Davenport, Iowa died at her home on Wednesday, January 15, 2014.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, January 18, 2014 at the New Life Baptist Church, 7780 W. Locust St. in Davenport.  She will be laid to rest at Davenport Memorial Park.  Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Friday at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf.  Memorials may be made to the church where she was a devoted member.

She was born on January 23, 1927 in Galesburg, Illinois, the daughter of Verbon Daniel & Amy Elizabeth (Swanson) Brown.  On May 19, 1946, she was united in marriage to Marion V. Simms in Davenport.  He preceded her in death on November 28, 2004.

Margaret was employed for seventeen years as a meat wrapper for the former Geifman Food Store of Davenport and in earlier years, worked for the Eagle Food Store for nine years.

Margaret was an accomplished cook and loved making meals for her family and for her church.

Those left to honor her memory include her sons, Jerry (Sue) Simms of Muscatine, Iowa, Garry (Judy Herlein) Simms of Davenport and Charles (Christine) Sims of Hiawatha, Iowa; her grandchildren, Marie Simms, Krystal Simms, Austin Simms, David Vasold and Skylar Vasold; her great-grandchildren, Krisdeena Jansen and Dylan Vasold; her sister, Mary Junkin of Coal Valley, Illinois; and her brothers, Bob Brown of Geneseo, Illinois and Dan Brown of Boise, Idaho.

In addition to her husband, Margaret was preceded in death by her son, Richard Simms and her granddaughter, Deena Eisenbacher.
