Margaret M. Pajunen, 89, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Thursday, September 29, 2005 at Manor Care Nursing Center, Davenport, Iowa.
Her funeral service will be held at 9:30 A.M. Monday, October 3, 2005 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Bettendorf. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Sunday at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Contributions in her memory may be made to St. Benedict’s College of St. Joseph, Minnesota or to Our Lady of Lourdes Funeral Fund.
She was born Phyllis Louise Wainworth on November 1, 1915 in Martin County, Michigan to Louise (Palm) Wainworth and Maxwell Hodge Wainworth. She went to live with her godparents, George J. & Edna Haas in February of 1921 in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. Margaret resided with them until she finished her college education.
She was united in marriage to Webster A. Pajunen of Eveleth, Minnesota on June 5, 1942 in Waite Park, Minnesota. He preceded her in death on October 4, 1987.
She graduated from St. Benedict’s College of St. Joseph, Minnesota with a degree in Home Economics and went on to teach at Maple Lake, Minnesota. She was also a homemaker to her husband and eight children.
After she & Webster moved from Minnesota to Bettendorf, they became members of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Circle, Daughters of Isabelle and the Bettendorf Lady Lions. She sang in the church choir and was a tireless volunteer at the church for funeral luncheons, cleaning the church, the library and any other area where help was needed. During her leisure time, she enjoyed reading and sewing.
Those left to honor her memory include her children, spouses & grandchildren, Susan & Walter Zachmeyer of Bettendorf & their son, Michael Zachmeyer; George & Carol Pajunen of Bettendorf & their son, Jessie Pajunen; Margaret A. Pajunen of Bettendorf & her sons, Seth Mulvihill & Michael Mulvihill; John & Alice Pajunen of Satellite Beach, Florida & their children, Logan Pajunen & Thea Pajunen; Virginia & W. Worthington Treasure of Bettendorf & their children, William Treasure & Meghan Treasure; William & Melissa Pajunen of Davenport, Iowa & their sons, Matthew Pajunen & Zachary Pajunen; Juliana & Jerry Nieman of Davenport & their children, Nathaniel Nieman & Natalie Nieman; and Steven Pajunen & his wife, Circe Stumbo of Iowa City, Iowa & their children, Jacob Pajunen & Taylor Pajunen.
She is also survived by her a sister (by her natural parents), Ione Cisneros in Arkansas; and a step-sister, Juliana (Haas) Dacy of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.
In addition to her husband, Margaret was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
