Margaret W. Lake

Margaret W. Lake, 72, a resident of Bettendorf, died Wednesday, December 3, 2003 at Crest Health Center in Davenport.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 6, 2003 at Asbury United Methodist Church in Bettendorf where she was a member. Interment will be private. Visitation will be Friday, December 5, 2003 from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Memorials may be made to the Bettendorf Family Museum of Arts and Sciences or WVIK Augustana Pulbic Radio, Rock Island, Illinois.
Margaret was born January 13, 1931 in Streator, Illinois, the daughter of Orlando & Alice (Moore) Weld. She was united in marriage to Norman P. Lake on January 27, 1952 in Streator.
She began her employment with the City of Bettendorf as a payroll clerk, retiring as transit director on January 6, 1995 after 27 years of faithful service.
Margaret was a faithful volunteer at the Bettendorf Family Museum of Arts & Sciences and was a recipient of the Mary Larson Volunteer of the Year Award. In addition, she devoted many hours at WVIK Public Radio, where she read for the blind. She also enjoyed caring for her flowers, gardening, traveling and spending time with her grandchildren.
Those left to honor her memory include, her beloved husband, Norman; her daughters & son-in-law, Paula & Tom Stanger of Davenport and Jean Lake of Bettendorf; her grandchildren, Alanza Lake-Herrera & her husband Derek Seliger, Emil Lake-Herrera, Allison Stanger and Kelsey Stanger; and her brother & sister-in-law, Don & Margery Weld of Flanagan, Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Lois Moore and Jean Drapp.
