Marguerite E. Groover, 86, a longtime resident of Bettendorf, passed away on Saturday, January 5, 2008 at her daughter’s home in Davenport.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, January 10, 2008 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P. M. Wednesday at the funeral home and also one hour prior to the time of service on Thursday. Entombment will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Marguerite was born in Mont Pelier, Iowa on May 21, 1921, the daughter of Amos Leroy and Marguerite Hazel (Markham) Comer. She was the oldest of thirteen children and after her mother passed away when she was very young she took over taking care of her siblings to keep the family together. She was united in marriage to Edgar Leon Groover in Iowa City, Iowa on Feb 23, 1952. He preceded her in death after 25 years of marriage.
Marguerite was a homemaker for most of her life until at the age of 57 she took a job at the Bettendorf Health Care Center. She continued to work there for 17 years.
She enjoyed playing bingo, doing crossword puzzles, shopping, cooking and baking, picnics and family get-togethers. She was a very caring woman who never complained even when she was down and she loved helping others.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughters, Susan Guynn of Clinton, Iowa, Helen (Merlin) Platt of Davenport, Sharon (Tom) Simons of Davenport and Sandra (Steven) Groover of Davenport; her son, Charles (Lora) Groover of Mesa Arizona; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; her brothers, Clifford (Sylvia) Comer of Maui, Hawaii and Gerald Comer of Davenport; many nieces; nephews; great-nieces; great-nephews; her life long friend Betty Davis; her special bingo friend, Janet; her beloved cat Garfield and numerous other friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her infant son, Helen’s twin, Edgar Leon Groover Jr. and ten siblings.
