Maria Ortega

Maria Luisa Ortega, 95, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa, died on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at home.

Funeral Services and Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Bettendorf, Iowa Visitation will be from 9:30 A.M to 11:30 A.M. on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf.  She will be laid to rest immediately following at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Davenport, Iowa.  Memorials may be made to Genesis Hospice.

Maria Luisa was born in Mexico City, Mexico on December 21, 1919, the daughter of Francisco and Maria Luisa (Lopez) Martinez.  On May 22, 1938, she was united in marriage to Juan Ortega in Mexico City.  He preceded her in death on December 9, 1987.

Maria was a homemaker whose love for her children and family was her life’s joy.  She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, flowers, dancing, crocheting, cooking and wearing colorful jewelry.  In greeting new children, she always had a bright, glowing smile.  All those who met her were left with a presence that they remember.

Those left to honor her memory include her children, Joe (Margaret) of Bettendorf, Carlos (Sandy) of Ankeny, Iowa, Maria (Andrew) Johnson of Georgia, Adrian (Molly) of Davenport, Rosario (Dennis) Weber of Davenport,  Roberto (Jeanne) of Davenport, and Ricardo (Jody) of Pleasant Valley, Iowa; twenty grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and wonderful friends.

Maria Luisa was preceded in death by her husband Juan; parents; brother; and several sisters, may they rest in peace.

The family would like to thank Genesis Visiting Nurse Dawn, Hospice Nurse Rita, and Hospice Aid Sandy for their wonderful care of their mother.
