Marian Lucille York, 79, of Bettendorf, died Friday, August 25, 2017 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, September 1, 2017 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Bettendorf. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park. A prayer service will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 31st, followed by visitation from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf.
Marian was born on December 27, 1937 in Illinois City, IL to John and Roberta Duffield. After graduating from Davenport High school in 1956, Marian married Robert York in 1957 and had 3 children. Marian’s caring and friendly nature made her home the neighborhood hangout for her 3 children and their friends. Marian retired from John Deere Plow Planter after 30 years as an office worker. During her retirement, Marian enjoyed assisting with office duties in between making building-wide announcements over the intercom at New Choices, Inc.
Marian will be remembered by her family for baking delicious Christmas treats and homemade pies, as well as canning the fruits and vegetables harvested from her garden. After many recipe requests, she printed her own cookbook, Country Cooking. Marian also had an inclination for crafts, including sewing, knitting, and refinishing furniture. Marian dearly loved spending time with her grandchildren Jake (Lorie), Jamine, Jed (Lacey), Haley, and Carter and her great-grandchildren Dillon, Drew, and Willow. She also enjoyed Saturday Mass and the many acts of kindness from fellow parishioners of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
Marian is survived by her children Joe York of Davenport, Jim York of Bettendorf, and Jody (Chuck) Cook of Texas; siblings Harold (Mary) Duffield of Missouri, Robert (Sally) Duffield of Idaho, John (Paula) Duffield of Florida, Randy (Kathy) Duffield of Minnesota; 5 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; a special niece Julie Cavlovic of Texas; and special friends Lois Thiemann, Deanna Wilson, and Sharon Joens (all of Bettendorf). She was preceded in death by her parents John and Roberta Duffield and sister and best friend Donna Webb.
Condolences may be made to Marian’s family by viewing her obituary at www.mcginnis-chambers.com. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church or Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.
