Marianne Rose Clancy, 80, a resident of Davenport, Iowa died Saturday, September 22, 2012 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa after a courageous battle with mesothelioma.
As per her wishes cremation rites will be accorded. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to New Life Baptist Church, Davenport or to Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.
Marianne was born October 11, 1931 in Lansing, Iowa the daughter of James and Gladys (Love) Clancy. She was united in marriage to Harold L. Whisler in Muscatine, Iowa on December 17, 1949. He preceded her in death in 1982.
Marianne worked as a supervisor in research and development for Sears Manufacturing for thirty-one years retiring in October of 1993.
She enjoyed volunteering at her church, New Life Baptist Church, Davenport. She also enjoyed sewing, stained glass and preparing meals for friends and family.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughters, Iris (Gary) Johnson, Davenport, Kitty Rose (Robert) Salsberry, Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Kim Galle, Davenport; her nine grandchildren; her fourteen great-grandchildren and her lifelong friend, Mary Wilson, Davenport.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents; her grandson, James Sheridan Ramsay and her brother, Ronald J. Clancy.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. George Kovach and his staff, the staff in the oncology department at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus and the staff at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.
