Marianne Fay (Kingsbury) Schaffer, 64, a Pleasant Valley, Iowa "river rat" departed this world to join her beloved angels on Saturday, January 13, 2007 at Trinity Pathway Hospice in Bettendorf, Iowa after a long & courageous battle with cancer.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, January 20, 2007 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Bettendorf where she was a member. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the church, where her grandchildren attend school, or to the family for a tree to be planted in her memory. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.
Marianne was born in Joliet, Illinois on April 1, 1942, the eldest daughter of Lowell K. & Frances A. Kingsbury. She was a graduate of Alleman High School in Rock Island, Illinois and attended Blackhawk College in Moline for a few years.
She married the late Gary Strohbeen in Rock Island, IL in 1967. She later married Gerald Schaffer in Hawaii in 1995.
In earlier years, Marianne worked as a secretary at Kenny's Tire in Rock Island and was also employed by Lee Enterprises Inc. She later worked for the Community Caring Conference in Rock Island, Illinois where she was nominated for the Rock Island Citizen of the Year Award. She continued her caregiving throughout her life by caring for her husband and others in need.
She truly enjoyed spending time with her wonderful family and friends, the beauty of falling snow, NASCAR, the Chicago Cubs & Bears, and music, especially rock & roll & country.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Gerald "Jerry" Schaffer; twin daughters, Tami F. Hardy of Bettendorf and Teri F. Strohbeen of Carthage, Missouri; her grandchildren, Tim, Patrick, Brianna, & Faith; her mother, Frances Ranker of Moline, IL; her sisters and brothers-in-law: Judi (Ken) Mason, Phoenix, Arizona, Laurie (Brown) (Jerry) Hourigan, Moline, IL, Helen Sue Boyd, Davenport, IA, Sarah Groene, East Moline, IL and Deborah (Tim) Rash, Denver, Colorado; her brother and sister-in-law, Lowell "Sonny" (Linda) Kingsbury, Coal City, Illinois; and many nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Tim in 1990; her father, Lowell Kingsbury; her stepfather, Del Ranker; and a nephew, Dan Griffin.
