Marie Kirby

Marie Irene (Haessler) Kirby, a resident of Princeton, Iowa, passed away on Monday, May 7, 2012, at the age of 90 at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus in Davenport, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, May 10, 2012 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery in LeClaire, Iowa. Memorials may be made to Princeton Presbyterian Church.

She was born on July 7, 1921, in LeClaire to Otto F. Haessler and Anna M. (Poell) Haessler. Marie graduated from LeClaire High School in 1939. She married Horace C. Kirby, August 23, 1940. He passed away in 1999.

Marie worked as a cook for Pleasant Valley Schools for 20 years. She had been an Avon representative since 1979. She was a member of Princeton Presbyterian Church. Marie took great pride in growing flowers, baking for her family and living independently since Horace’s death.

She had two sisters, Mildred Drechsler, Edna Haessler, and two brothers, Harold and Fred. All are deceased. Horace and Marie were parents to six children: Gerald, who died at birth; Richard of Princeton, Missouri; Paul (Sandi) of DeWitt, Iowa; Carol Weiland of Princeton; Kenneth (Shirley) of Calmar, Iowa; and Linda (Mike) Buesing of Princeton. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren.
