Marie Fletcher Carter, 100, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa, died Thursday, March 5, 2009 at Manor Care Utica Ridge in Davenport,
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Sunday, March 8, 2009 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Boll’s Community Center in Princeton, Iowa.
Marie was born July 4, 1908 on the family farm in Princeton, the daughter of Thomas and Maude (Porter) Fletcher. At the age of eighteen she went to Clinton College of Commerce. Her first job was at Public Health Services in Washington D.C. She worked for some time at the Rock Island Arsenal where she met her future husband at the clock tower. On September 19, 1940 she was united in marriage to Archie Carter at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. Archie preceded her in death.
Marie enjoyed painting, refinishing furniture and raising violets. She donated a lot of her time to Goodwill. She also loved to travel the world having visited 97 counties.
Those left to honor her memory include her nephews, Tom (Lois) Fletcher, Gene (Brenda) Fletcher, Greg (Maureen) Fletcher and Rich Fletcher; her nieces, Janet Munro and Roberta Garman and numerous other nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers Irvin and Vallie Fletcher.
