Marilyn H. Alcala, 80, a resident of Wapello, formerly of Davenport, died Thursday, May 8, 2014 at her home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Davenport. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 12 th at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. A memorial has been established in her memory.
Born on January 27, 1934 in Davenport, Marilyn was the daughter of Louis and Helen (Ede) Menes. She married Joseph D. Alcala, Sr. He preceded her in death on October 20, 1988.
Marilyn enjoyed fishing, dancing, playing BINGO, card games and Yahtzee. She cherished her time spent with her family.
Those left to honor her memory include her significant other, Bill Schelling of Wapello; daughters, Linda Phelps of Moline, Selene “Cindy” (Robert) Aguirre of Davenport and Judy (Jay) Hendrickson of Herald, CA; sons, Louis Jay Alcala, Mark (Pam) Alcala and Tom Alcala, all of Davenport; 13 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; sister, Carol Thomas of Virginia; brothers, Duane Menes of Bettendorf and Tom Menes of Davenport.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Joseph D. Alcala, Jr. and brother, Don Menes.
