Marilyn Kay LaMar was born on March 30th, 1955, in Pekin, Illinois to Austin (Aussie) LaMar and Francis Colleen (LaMar) Terrell. Surviving are her brothers, John (Connie) LaMar, Coal Valley, Illinois, Dale (Jewel) LaMar, Moline, Illinois, Tom (Lisa) LaMar, Vandalia, Illinois, Roy Caskey and Andy LaMar, Bud (Katie) Butler all of Davenport, Iowa, Brian (Michelle) Butler of Ramsey, Illinois. Surviving sisters, Lila LaMar of Davenport, Iowa, and Kim Simer of Florida. Her surviving sons, Tommy of Vandalia, Illinois, Franklin of Bettendorf, Iowa, and daughters; Lila, Rhonda and baby girl Tabitha, all of Davenport, IA, and her six beloved grandchildren.
Marilyn Kay Darnell died on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at ProMedica, Davenport, due to natural causes. She fought to the end. Marilyn loved serving her churches, Faith Tabernacle, Pekin, Illinois, and Grace Bible Fellowship, Moline, Illinois. She coached the Special Olympics Iowa, and volunteered at Madison Elementary, feeding the homeless. She opened up the Café’ on Vine, and local food pantries. Marilyn was a family woman. She loved to color, watch TV, laugh and joke, play family games, liked pitch-spades and rummy, and most of all telling us about the good old days. For example, working at JC Penny’s on the holidays gift wrapping.
Marilyn was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents, both parents, her sister, four brothers, several aunts, uncles, cousins, nephew and a son.
Come celebrate Marilyn’s life, the woman who touched all our hearts with the warmth of hers, on Saturday, December 17, 2022, from 12 noon to 2 P.M. at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to her angel, Tabitha Darnell.
