Marilyn Rose Lohman, 82, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Sunday, March 25, 2012 at Trinity Bettendorf.

Funeral Services and Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Thursday, March 29, 2012 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church of Bettendorf where she was a devoted member. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery in Davenport. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home of Bettendorf where a prayer service will be conducted at 4:00 P.M. and a rosary recited at 7:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Down by the Creek Animal Sanctuary, P.O. Box 177, Long Grove, Iowa 52756 or to Our Lady of Lourdes Church.

She was born January 21, 1930 in Ft. Madison, Iowa, the daughter of Leonard C. & Marie (Schumaker) Hunt. Marilyn learned to play the piano in the first grade and took up the organ in seventh grade. She also played the organ in high school and played in a dance band with a handful of other high school students.

After moving to Bettendorf in 1963 and she joined Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. After Marilyn was appointed the church organist, she received additional training from Father Jim Greene at St. Ambrose College in Davenport and Charles Farley from Knox College in Galesburg. Her favorite time to play was during Easter.

For over 40 years, Marilyn served as the head organist at the church. She played with the choir mainly at the Sunday Masses. She also played for holy days, special occasion Masses, weddings and funerals.

Marilyn was employed as the executive secretary at the Vera French Mental Health Center in Davenport, Iowa, retiring in 2006 after 28 years of faithful service.

In addition to the church, she was long-time member of the American Guild of Organists and a member of the Plus-60 Club.

In her spare time, Marilyn enjoyed ballroom dancing and going on cruises. She had traveled to the Caribbean, the Mediterranean, Russia, Europe and other exciting destinations all over the world.

Those left to honor her memory include her daughters, Sue (Paul) Herrera of Milan, Illinois and Linda (David) Reed of Ellicott City, Maryland; her son, Jim Lohman of Davenport; her grandson, Matt (Patty) Ferguson of Holland, Michigan; her great-grandchildren, Cameron & Katie; one niece, four nephews and several great-nieces & great-nephews.

Her brother, Vincent Hunt, preceded her in death.
