Marilyn L. Purcell, 74, a resident of LeClaire, Iowa passed away on Sunday, June 3, 2012 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, Iowa after a brief illness with complications from pneumonia, stroke and respiratory failure.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, June 7, 2012 at Our Savior Presbyterian Church in Argo, Iowa where she was a devoted member. She will be laid to rest at Jack’s Cemetery, rural LeClaire. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf and one hour prior to the services Thursday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Savior Presbyterian Church or the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.
She was born July 5, 1937 in Davenport, Iowa the daughter of Roy and Ruth (Kirk) Hamilton. Marilyn attended a one room school house across from the church and later graduated from LeClaire High School. On December 26, 1964 she was united in marriage to Michael Purcell.
Marilyn retired in 1994 from the former Iowa-Illinois Gas and Electric Company with over thirty-five years of faithful service.
Marilyn enjoyed working in flower gardens at her home. She always put the needs of others before her own. She loved spending time with her beloved grandchildren and will always be remembered as a kind, independent and generous person.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughters, Ann (Brian) Kirby of LeClaire and Jane (Cliff) Henkens of Davenport; her grandchildren whom she cherished, Troy, Brandon, Abby, Chad, Darci; her sister, Dorothy Kelly of Bettendorf; several nieces and nephews; all of the extended Purcell family and many close friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Marcia Gregory; her brothers, Dick and Donnie Hamilton; her brother-in-law, Jack Kelly and her special great-nephew, Dakota Holst.
Marilyn’s family extends their thanks to the staff of Genesis West and the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House for the comfort and care she received during these past several weeks.
