Marilyn J. Kennedy, 62, was called home on January 18, 2007 from her residence of 37 years in Long Grove, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday January 22, 2007 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. on Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois, next to her husband George P. Kennedy, Sr. Following the services, Marilyn’s family and friends will be invited to a luncheon in her honor at Park View Lutheran Church in Park View, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Park View Lutheran Church or the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
Marilyn was born on May 7, 1944 in Savertown, Missouri, the daughter of Daniel W. & Katherine I. (Foster) Orr. She attended college in Kirksville, Missouri. Marilyn moved to Davenport in 1964 and shortly thereafter started raising her family.
She was united in marriage to Richard H. Schuerch on November 12, 1971 in Hannibal, Missouri. He preceded her in death on August 17, 1986. She was later united in marriage to George P. “Pat” Kennedy, Sr. on December 1, 1990 in Hannibal. He preceded her in death on July 25, 1998.
Marilyn was a devoted member of Park View Lutheran Church since 1982 and has made many devotional banners for various seasons and holidays. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, painting, quilting, baking, gardening, taking care of and bottle-feeding lambs and an orphaned colt.
As a loving grandmother, she spent countless hours teaching her grandchildren quilting and various crafts that received numerous awards as Clinton County and Iowa State fairs. She has donated many of her quilts to various charities and organizations. Marilyn has been a mother, sister, friend, and supporter of the many people in her life and will be missed by all.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughter and son-in-law, Carrie & Patrick Kennedy, Jr., of DeWitt, Iowa; her son and partner, Russell Schuerch and Keyvi Boyer, of Alexandria, Virginia; her grandchildren, Samantha and Logan Kennedy; her sisters, Darlene Stallard, Dana Brothers, and her husband, Wayne, Nancy Haskins, Brenda Romig, and her husband, John, Kathy Knutelski, and Beryl Freeman, and her husband, Dave; her brothers, Ed Orr and David Orr; many nieces and nephews; and her special friends, Arlus Keller, Joanne Bullock, Del & Esther Harrison, and Linda Borcher.
In addition to her husbands, Richard and George; she was preceded in death by her parents.
