Marion V. Simms, 80, a resident of Davenport, Iowa died Sunday, November 28, 2004 at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus in Davenport.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, December 2, 2004 at the New Life Baptist Church, 7780 W. Locust St., Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf and one hour before services at the church. Memorials may be made to the church where he was a loyal member.
He was born August 4, 1924 in Centerville, Iowa, the son of Charles & Marie (Jones) Simms. On May 19, 1946, he was united in marriage to Margaret A. Brown in Davenport.
Marion retired in 1987 from the Davenport School System where he had been employed for 18 years. He was formerly employed at the former Peter Pan Bakery in Davenport for 29 years.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in the south Pacific.
His family was the joy of his life and those left to honor him include his beloved wife of 58 years, Margaret whom he affectionately called his “little bride,”; his sons, Jerry Simms of Blue Grass, Iowa, Garry Simms of Davenport and Chuck Simms of Hiawatha, Iowa; his grandchildren, Krystal Simms of Davenport, Marie Simms of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Austin Simms of Davenport, Deena Eisenbacher of Blue Grass and Dave Vasold & his wife, Michelle of Davenport; seven great-grandchildren; his sister, Beulah Mildren of Davenport; and his brothers, Carl Simms & his wife, Nancy of Leesburg, Florida and Vernon Simms & his wife, Sylvia of Geneseo, Illinois.
Marion was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Simms; and by his infant son, Richard.
