Marjorie Marie Beard, 91, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Monday, September 09, 2024, at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus in Davenport, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, September 13, 2024, at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Spinal Muscular Atrophy Foundation. (SMA).
Marie was born in Edinburg, Missouri on November 7, 1932, the daughter of Roy and Letha (Veatch) Robertson and was a 1951 graduate of LeClaire High School. She married Lyle Beard in Davenport on December 31, 1951.
She retired after a 20-year career as a Logistician at the Rock Island Arsenal. During this time, she was one of only two women to receive the Army National Guard Meritorious Service Award. Prior to this she was employed by John Deere for 10 years.
Marie will always be remembered as a wonderful cook. Nothing gave her more pleasure than to feed her family, the more the merrier. During her tenure at the Arsenal, she was commonly referred to as “The Pie Lady”. She was an avid Cardinal fan, a voracious reader and the best mom, grandma & great grandma ever! In her younger years, she loved to go dancing.
Her faith was an integral part of her life, and she was a long-time member of Our Savior Presbyterian Church in Argo, Iowa.
Those left to honor her memory include her children, Roya (Dennis) Francis of Wildwood, Missouri, Ronda (James) Johnson of Davenport, Randall (Jeanette) Beard of Blue Grass, Iowa and Richard (Maria) Beard of Bettendorf; her grandchildren, James (Alison) Poehlman, Steven (Marlo) Beard, Drew (Angela) Beard, Kelsey Francis and Joseph Beard; her great-grandchildren, Matthew Poehlman, Rachel Poehlman, Kaden Beard, Rylan Poehlman and Aurora Beard; and her brother, Max Robertson of LeClaire.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Donald L. and R. Wayne Robertson and an infant sister, Patsy.
