Mark A. Roberts, 70, a resident of Bettendorf, died Thursday, October 10, 2013, at home after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease and Dementia.
Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at Heritage Wesleyan Church in Rock Island. Burial will be at Pine Hill Cemetery in Davenport. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 15th at McGinnis–Chambers Funeral home in Bettendorf. Memorials may be made to the family for a memorial to be later established.
Mark was born January 12, 1943 in Pontiac, IL, the son of Roy and Sara (Alexander) Roberts. He graduated from Pontiac High School and Midstate Business College in Peoria, IL.
He married the love of his life, Peggy Metz, on September 26, 1964.
Mark served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam era. He was a finance manager at a loan company in Lincoln, IL for 8 years. He then worked as an F&I manager at Schumacher Chevrolet in Metamora, IL, Pontiac, IL, and Des Moines, IA. He worked as a finance and insurance manager at Eriksen Chevrolet for 20 years where he was known as M.R. at the Big E. Mark was a hard, dedicated worker and put in many long hours to provide for his family. He was a member of Heritage Wesleyan Church.
Mark enjoyed motocross, NASCAR, boating, dancing and singing around the house, eating ½ gallon of ice cream daily, and his dog Rocky. His true loves in life were his grandkids and fishing. He especially cherished all of his vacations to Montana where he fished, hiked, and enjoyed time with his sons Mark E. and Mike.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife of 49 years, Peggy; Children, Kristin (Tim) Posey, Mike (Phillippa) Roberts and Nicole (Tyler) Driever, all of Bettendorf; Grandchildren, Ali and Kassie Posey, Kayshia and Micah Roberts, Brandon, Alex, and Jacob Driever, all of Bettendorf; Brothers and Sisters Jim (Pat) Roberts, Champaign, IL, Thelma Campbell, Normal, IL, Jerry Roberts, Pontiac, IL , Sally McCormick, Glendale, AZ, Larry Roberts, Bloomington, IL, John (Jamie) Roberts, Ennis, MT, Nancy (Bob) Arbogast, Pontiac, IL, Debbie (Paul) Zace, Jackson, OH; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Mark joined his oldest son, Mark E. Roberts in heaven with a big hug and lots of fishing talk. He was also preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Fran Roberts; brothers-in-law, Ronald Campbell and David McCormick; a grandchild Bailey Posey; and an infant brother, Virgil Roberts.
