Pastor Mark A. Jacobsen, 52, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Saturday, August 11, 2007 at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus in Davenport, Iowa.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, August 18, 2007 at the Bettendorf Presbyterian Church, 1200 Middle Rd. in Bettendorf. There will a time of fellowship and refreshment following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.
He was born June 10, 1955 in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Lowell “Jake” and Anna Mae (Short) Jacobsen. Mark graduated from East Peoria (Illinois) High School, Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois and the Rhema Bible Training Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. On May 30, 1982, he was united in marriage to Barbara Mather in Kewanee, Illinois.
Mark was pastor of the Praise Fellowship (a Rhema church affiliate) in Bettendorf. In addition, he was employed at Professional Communications of Davenport.
He served as Scoutmaster of Troop 89 in Bettendorf and was a police chaplain with the Bettendorf Police Department.
Mark was an avid supporter and helper with the athletic programs at Bettendorf High School where his wife works and his two older sons play sports.
A service oriented person, who always thought of others first, lived by important priorities in his life: God, his family, his church, the Boy Scouts and his work as police chaplain balanced a life lived with Godly principles.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Barb; his sons, Joel, Jeremy & Jess, all of Bettendorf; his parents, Lowell “Jake” and Anna Mae Jacobsen of Henry, Illinois; his sisters, Lois Simmons of East Peoria, Illinois, Jill (Dan) Irvin of Columbus, Ohio and Jaye Jacobsen of Janesville, Wisconsin; along with many other relatives and beloved friends.
