Martha S. “Sue” Hatler, 87, of Bettendorf passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at Jersey Ridge Place, Davenport surrounded by her loving family. Visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 22nd at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. Private family burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Sue was born on May 30, 1937 in Gleason, Tennessee, the daughter of William and Lunie Bell (Jackson) Delaney. She graduated from Gleason High School in 1955. On July 21, 1957, she was united in marriage to Jere T. Hatler in Gleason. Sue worked as a sales associate at JC Penney for 25 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Bettendorf for over 50 years, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, member of the church choir, and helped wherever there was a need. Sue was blessed with many lifelong friendships. She never met a stranger and touched countless lives with her kind and caring demeanor.
Those left to honor her memory are her children, Terry (Kelly) Hatler of Bettendorf and Tammy Hatler-Watson of LeClaire; four grandchildren, J.L. (Carrie) Hatler, Joshua (Kirsten) Hatler, Joseph (Meagan) Hatler, and Ryan Watson; 5 great-grandchildren, Jackson, Madisyn, Owen, Jase, Olivia, and one great-grandson on the way; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jere; son-in-law, Craig Watson; grandson, Brett Watson; and sister, Edith Griffith.
