Martha Menke

Martha Ann “Marty” Menke passed away at 6:16 a.m. Monday, April 5, 2021, in Davenport, Iowa, after a short battle with cancer.

Born October 6, 1949, in Gallipolis, Ohio, to Ralph C. and Marjorie A. (Macke) Huge, she graduated from Wethersfield High School in Kewanee, Illinois in 1967 and St. John’s College in Winfield, Kansas in 1970.

She married Delbert H. Menke on June 21, 1975, in Davenport, and was a church secretary for 50-plus years until retiring June 30, 2020. She worked for 17 years as receptionist and dance teacher at Arthur Murray Dance Studio, Davenport.

A member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rock Island, Illinois, Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, Altar Guild and Social Ministry Committee for many years, she was also involved in Pilot International since 1971; served on the board of Bend of the River Quad-Cities Club as well as Governor of the Midwest District, 2006-07.

Marty was preceded in death by her husband Del on November 13, 2013; her parents; brother, Jack Edwin Huge in infancy; and nephew, Michael Kundel in 1987.

She is survived by sister, Susan D. Kundel, Peekskill, New York; nephews, Alan L. Kundel (Joanne), Austin, Texas, David (Sandra) Kundel and children, Michael and Rachel, Poughkeepsie, New York; aunt, Mary Macke; cousins and friends.

Marty devoted herself to unconditional love of family and friends, especially her sister, Susie, and countless Pilot friends. She dedicated herself to serving others through Pilot locally and nationally, especially those with brain-related injuries and illnesses.

Private graveside services were April 8, 2020, at Davenport Memorial Park, Davenport.
