Mary B. Gilmore, 85, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Monday, February 14, 2011 at the Select Specialty Hospital in Davenport, Iowa.
Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, February 18, 2011 at St. James Lutheran Church of Bettendorf. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. Thursday at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home of Bettendorf. Memorials may be made to the family.
She was born May 23, 1925 in Story City, Iowa, the daughter of Elmer & Hildreth (Haleland) Moore. On June 24, 1950, she was united in marriage to Melford A. Gilmore in Story City. He preceded her in death on September 13, 2000.
Mary was employed as a bookkeeper for Simmons Business Service of Davenport for many years, retiring several years ago. In earlier years, she worked in the Accounting Office of the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa.
She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church and the Does women’s auxiliary of the Elk’s Club.
Among the things she enjoyed were gardening, reading, traveling, fishing and the companionship of her beloved family, especially her grand-children & great-grandchildren.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughter, Lucretia A. DeVrieze of Bettendorf; her grandchildren, Rachel (David) Pai of Davenport and Jason DeVrieze of Davenport; her great-grandchildren, Samantha, Amanda, Suzee & David; her sister, Betty DeWall of Centralia, Missouri; her nieces, Patricia Bramon and Debra Foppe; and her close & special friends, Anthony DeVrieze & his wife, Mary of Moline, Illinois and Aleena Lapsey of Davenport.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.
