Mary Laing Haynes, 98, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at Manor Care Utica Ridge, Davenport, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. on Friday, December 17, 2010 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf, IA. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the time of service. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park, Davenport, Iowa. Memorials may be made to the First Assembly of God, Bettendorf, Missions Department.

Mary was born April 20, 1912 in Rock Island, Illinois the daughter of Albert P. and Maude M. (Pierce) Laing.

After graduating from Davenport High School she went on to teach in country schools in McCausland, New Liberty and Long Grove, Iowa. She also taught ballroom dancing at Haynes Dance Studio at Old Hiberian Hall, Davenport, Iowa. She later owned her own business, Advertising Specialties in St. Joseph, Michigan, retiring after 40 years.

After her retirement she moved back to Bettendorf in 1994.

She was a longtime member of First Assembly of God, Bettendorf, Iowa. She enjoyed sewing and was an accomplished seamstress.

Those left to honor her memory include her nieces, Joan (Gary) Ray, Davenport, Iowa and Mary Phillips, Davenport, Iowa; her nephews, Pete (Barb) Laing, Davenport, Iowa, Jack (Nancy) Laing, Bettendorf, Iowa, Don (Maria) Laing, Lakeland, Florida and Scott (Sue) Laing, Lakeland, Florida and her nieces-in-law, Sherrie Laing, Brooksville, Florida and Karen Janeski, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Ray “Jack” Laing and Ralph Laing; her nephews, David Laing, Tom Laing and Clyde Janeski.

Mary’s family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Manor Care Utica Ridge and Genesis Hospice for all of their service and care.
