Mary Holmes

Mary L. Holmes, 83, of Davenport, Iowa, died Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at Manor Care-Utica Ridge in Davenport.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 17, 2017 at the Fairmount Cemetery Mausoleum in Davenport.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association Respite Care Program, 2208 E. 52nd St., Suite B in Davenport, Attn.; Jerry Schroeder, Executive Director.

Mary was born August 9, 1933 in Davenport, the daughter of Clifford N. & Mary (Riepe) Voss.  She was united in marriage to Edward H. Holmes on July 1, 1952 in Davenport.  He preceded her in death on January 7, 2007.  Along with Ed, they owned and operated Holmes Body Shop in Davenport.  She was also a floral designer.  Trained as an operatic soprano, Mary loved the outdoors, gardening and was artistic in arranging floral arrangements.

Those left to honor Mary’s memory include her sons and daughters-in-law, Michael Holmes & Paula Brown of Madison, Wisconsin, Daniel & Stella Holmes of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Patrick & Kathy Holmes of Davenport and Dwight & Michelle Holmes of Davenport; her grandchildren, Doug, Jennifer, Jeffery and Brandon; her brother, Robert Voss of Las Cruces, New Mexico; and her nieces, Joy, Ann and Valerie.
