Mary Mcdonnell

Mary L. McDonnell, 80, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Monday, August 15, 2011 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.

Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, August 19, 2011 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church of Bettendorf where she was a member. She will be laid to rest at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Thursday at the funeral home. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 4:00 P.M. on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.

Mary was born October 19, 1930 in Centerville, Iowa, the daughter of George & Vivian (Johnson) Albright. She was united in marriage to John F. McDonnell on August 13, 1949 in Davenport, Iowa. He preceded her in death on March 7, 2007.

Mary will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed playing Scrabble with her granddaughters and camping with her family in earlier years. She had a great joy for music and also enjoyed baking and entertaining guests in her home.

Those left to honor her memory include her daughter, Monica VanTheemsche of LeClaire, Iowa; her sons, Robert (Toni) McDonnell of Austin, Texas, Edward McDonnell of Bettendorf, Brian (Donna) McDonnell of Bettendorf and Kevin McDonnell of Bettendorf; her grandchildren, Melissa McDonnell, Michael McDonnell, Ryan McDonnell, Tiffanie Weaver, Heather Decastecker, Carol Swartz, Elizabeth VanTheemsche and Scott VanTheemsche; her great-grandchildren, Crystal, Anakin, Jade, Brock, Brooklyn, Hannah and Emma; and her sister, Bert (Art) Rose of Riverdale, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Eugene Albright; and her sister, Betty Gill.
