Mary Ellen Young

Mary Ellen Young, 80, of Bettendorf, passed away Tuesday, January 18, 2005 at Iowa Masonic Health Facility, Bettendorf. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M., Friday, January 21, 2005 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home with a prayer service to be held at 6:00 P.M. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park, Davenport. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Mary Ellen was born September 18, 1924 in Lima, Ohio, the daughter of Percy W. & Mary Margaret (Bayhen) Vergin. She was a 1946 graduate of Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana with a degree in Education. She was united in marriage to William E. Young on August 2, 1952 in Muncie. Mary Ellen taught for eight years at Kokomo High School, Kokomo, Indiana and at East Leyden High School, Franklin Park, Illinois.
Mary Ellen will be remembered as a devoted and loving wife and mother to her husband and daughters.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband, William; her daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy & Gene Breniman, of Martinez, California and Betty & Gary Karp, of Indianapolis, Indiana; and a granddaughter, Becky Field, of Martinez.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
