Mary Jane “Aunt Jane” Hofland, 71, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Sunday, August 17, 2008 at Trinity at Terrace Park Hospital in Bettendorf.
Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, August 21, 2008 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church of Bettendorf. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home of Bettendorf where a prayer service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Memorials may be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars National Home or to the family.
She was born August 8, 1937 in Burlington, Iowa, the daughter of Merlin & Mary (Markey) Foresman. On March 3, 1968, she was united in marriage to Richard “Peanuts” Sander in Rock Island, Illinois. He preceded her in death on August 30, 1985. On August 30, 1997, she was united in marriage to Roger D. Hofland in Long Grove, Iowa.
Mary Jane was a homemaker and in earlier years, worked as a hairdresser, secretary, school lunch server and a nanny.
She was a life-member & past-president of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary of Bettendorf, the American Legion Auxiliary of Moline, Illinois, the Veterans of Foreign Wars National Home, the M.O.C.A. where she was past-president, AARP and the Quad-Cities Plus-60 Club.
Jane was a loving aunt who never missed an event or a family gathering. She was always proud to show her love and support to her family. Among the things she enjoyed were camping, cooking – especially fried chicken and making fudge, watching the kids activities, sports & dance recitals, playing LCR, crocheting and holding babies.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Roger; their step-daughters, Shelly (Jay) Lancer and Sheri Scherfer, both of Dubuque, Iowa; her sisters, Esther Thomas of Roseville, Illinois and Leatha (Joe) Hutson of Donahue, Iowa; and her brothers, Merlin (Janet) Foresman of Oneida, Tennessee and Ronald (Sharon) Foresman of Lombard, Illinois. She is also survived by more than 50 nieces & nephews and 100 great-nieces & great-nephews whom she loved like they were her own children especially Tim Hutson of Maquon, Illinois, Tammy (Larry) Hutson-Norcross of Newton, Iowa, Teri (Jeff) Hutson-Hamerlinck and Zach & Nick of Davenport, Iowa, Thomas (Jeanne) Hutson of Swisher, Iowa, Tony (Donna) Hutson of St. Louis, Missouri, Ted (Jennifer) Hutson of Wauconda, Illinois, Traci (Wade) Hutson-Verbrugge of Eldridge, Iowa and Tina (Jim) Hutson-Lindle of Eldridge, Iowa and all of their families.
In addition to her first husband, her sisters, Elsie Hartman and Betty Williams and her brothers, Dr Robert Foresman, Dr. Jim Foresman and Edward Foresman, preceded her in death.
