Mary Jo Buckley

Mary Jo Buckley, 68, of DeWitt, Iowa passed away on Monday, May 6, 2019 surrounded by her loving family.

A memorial gathering will be held on Monday, May 13, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf, Iowa.  Memorials may be directed to Mary Jo’s favorite charity, St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Mary Jo was born April 28, 1951 in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of Leo and Alice (Scott) Brugman.  She was united in marriage to Larry Buckley on July 6, 1974 in Clinton.

Mary Jo grew up in Clinton where she had many close friends who enjoyed fun shenanigans, as most teenagers do.  She was blessed to keep some of those wonderful friends throughout her life.  Mary Jo and her loving husband shared their home in DeWitt with their daughter, granddaughter, her boyfriend and their great-grandson.

Mary Jo was employed at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home as their administrative assistant and as their hairdresser.  She loved her job immensely and never considered it work. Mary Jo was not only a part of the funeral home staff, but was considered a part of the family.

Mary Jo loved going to the casino with her adoring husband and trying to win big!  She treasured spending time with her family, especially playing blocks and cuddling with her great-grandson.  On warm days, Mary Jo enjoyed driving around with the top down in her convertible “Bug.”  She was admired greatly by her daughter and her granddaughter, to whom she meant the world.

Those left to honor her memory are her husband, Larry; daughter, Erica; granddaughter, Eleana and her boyfriend, Dylan Kaczinski; and great-grandson, Emmett, a.k.a. Babycakes.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Lee.
