Mary L. Lopez was born on October 17, 1946 in Floresville, Texas, the daughter of Pedro and Juanita Leal. She graduated from Poth High School, Poth, Texas, in 1966. After high school Mary went on to serve in the Job Corps. Her continued education and training landed her in Poland Springs, Maine for two years. Upon completing her education she moved to the Quad Cities to marry Chris Lopez on October 20, 1967. Since 1974 Mary had been employed with MidAmerican Energy (FKA Iowa-Illinois Gas & Electric Company).
Mary enjoyed life to the fullest and her greatest joy was her family. She could be seen out walking, doing yard work, tending to her flower gardens, or keeping up with her grandchildren. She was also often seen at all school functions for her daughter, sons, and grandchildren. Mary traveled often to Texas but her favorite spot to visit was Colorado. Her life is indicative of the mountains of Colorado….each way you turn to look you would always see something new to enjoy!
Mary was truly a joy to be around and inspired all who knew her with her creativity, sense of adventure, kindness and enthusiasm for life. We celebrate the legacy that will live on in all who knew her well. She was blessed with a large and wonderful family including her daughter Rhonda (Nathan) Norman, son(s) Randy (Jennifer) Lopez and Richard (Margaret Rodts) Lopez, Grandchildren Aneesia and Isaiah Norman, and Sierra Lopez. Other survivors in the family are sisters Eloisa (Lupe) Garza, Sabrina (Rory) Garcia, brothers Isaiahs, Pete Jr., Fred (Irma), Jim (Larisa), John, David (Maria) Leal and many other Brother/Sister in-laws, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces and Nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her parents Pedro and Juanita Leal and a brother Richard.
