Marylen Jean Benson, 72, a resident of Davenport, Iowa died on Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at the Bettendorf Healthcare Center, Bettendorf, Iowa.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel in Bettendorf. She will be laid to rest at Pine Hill Cemetery, Davenport, Iowa. The family will greet friends from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Anthony’s Catholic Church for their holiday basket program.
She was born March 7, 1938 in Iowa City, Iowa the daughter of Herman H. & Leona M. (Thomas) Rathmann.
Marylen was a waitress and bartender at several Quad-City area restaurants and taverns. She loved to play bingo and in earlier years, enjoyed crocheting.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughter, Deborah Dawson of Davenport; her sons, Dan Dawson of Anamosa, Iowa and Carl Dawson of Davenport; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; her sister, Pat Kalquist of Bettendorf; her brother, Gary Grell of Norfolk, Virginia; and many nieces & nephews.
Marylen was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Michelle Dawson; her father, Herman Rathmann; and her mother, Leona Zugg.
