Mary N. Lay

Mary N. Lay, 79, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died Tuesday, April 20, 2004 at the Bettendorf Healthcare Center.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, April 24, 2004 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Glenwood State Hospital, Glenwood, Iowa.
She was born September 15, 1924 in what is now St. Petersburg, Russia, the daughter of Dikran & Heranoush (Davidian) Mugerdichian. The family immigrated to the United States and settled in Bettendorf in 1930. On September 9, 1950, she was united in marriage to Elija J. “Jack” Lay in Bettendorf. Jack preceded her in death on October 10, 1998.
Mary was a graduate of Davenport High School and a long-time member of St. James Lutheran Church, Bettendorf.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughters, Mary Jane Beck of Santee, California and Ann Berberich of Bettendorf; her sons & daughters-in-law, John & Brenda Lay of Bettendorf, James & Peggy Lay of Hill City, South Dakota and Robert Lay of Glenwood, Iowa; nine grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
In addition to her husband, Mary was preceded in death by her son, George; and her brothers, Abe & Ed.
