Mary W. Hoffman, 85, a resident of the Iowa Masonic Health Facilities of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Friday, July 15, 2005 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus in Davenport, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 19, 2005 at Asbury United Methodist Church, Bettendorf. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt, Iowa. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at the church. Contributions in her memory may be made to the church or the Iowa Masonic Health Facilities. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.
Mary was born on February 6, 1920 in McCausland, Iowa (Butler Township), the daughter of Ernest & Matilda Oliver Hahn. On June 28, 1957, she was united in marriage to Harold D. Hoffman in Davenport.
She was a graduate of DeWitt High School and of the teacher training program of Davenport High School. Earlier in life, she had taught at Butler School #6 in rural McCausland. She retired in May of 1988 with fifteen years of service as a federal civilian employee of the U. S. Army in Rock Island, Illinois.
Mary was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of NARFE and a former member of TTT and Questers-Duck Creek Chapter #570. She enjoyed music and playing piano & organ for personal recreation. Among her hobbies were bridge, antiques and knitting. She loved her children and their families and took great pride in their accomplishments.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Harold; her daughters, Marianne (Craig) Hute of Ridgway, Colorado, Marge (Garry) Heinze of Morton, Illinois and Carole (Dale) Boswell of Bettendorf; her sons, Jeff (Peggy) Dean of Silvis, Illinois and Marc (Cecelia) Hoffman of St. Charles, Illinois; her step-daughter, Eloise (Pat) Hoffman of Dallas, Texas; her step-son, Phillip (Phyllis) Hoffman of Las Vegas, Nevada; fourteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; her sister, Bernice (Vic) Hansen of Grand Mound, Iowa; her brother-in-law, Richard Stevens of LeClaire, Iowa; and her daughter-in-law, Merrianne Hoffman of Pacific City, Oregon.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Alice (Richard) Stevens; and her step-son, John Henry (Merrianne) Hoffman.
