Maureen Van Loon

Maureen A. Van Loon, 92, of Eldridge, died Sunday, May 11, 2014 at the Grand Haven Retirement Community in Eldridge.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 15, 2014 at Chambers Funeral Home in Eldridge.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.  Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to Honor Flight of the Quad-Cities.

Maureen was born January 8, 1922 in Danville, Iowa, the daughter of Roy M. & Ferne M. (Yaley) Whitaker.  She was united in marriage to Francis O. Van Loon on October 11, 1941 in Rock Island, Illinois.  He preceded her in death on February 17, 2011.

Maureen enjoyed sewing and, in earlier years, ceramics.  She enjoyed crafting aprons and bags for her fellow residents at Grand Haven and playing dominoes.

Those left to honor her memory include her daughters, Diane Jamison of Eldridge and Denise (Terry) Joens of Bettendorf; her sons, Jerry (Bonnie) Van Loon of Long Grove, Iowa and David (Linda) Van Loon of Illinois City, Illinois; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and her sister, Elaine McCulloch of Muskegon, Michigan.

In addition to her husband, Francis, Maureen was preceded in death by her parents.
