Maurice H. Reber, 92, of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at the Kahl Home in Davenport.


A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Pleasant Valley where he was a long-time member. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at the church. Following the service, a luncheon will be served in Fellowship Hall at the church.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Trinity Lutheran Church.  McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home of Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.


He was born in Fremont, Nebraska on November 7, 1931, the son of Maurice and Anna (Boettcher) Reber and was a graduate of Midland Lutheran College in Fremont.  He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1955.  On June 8, 1959, he married Judith LaGrange in Bettendorf.

          

Maurice was a supervisor at the Oscar Mayer & Company in Davenport, retiring after 32 years of service. Following his retirement, he drove a school bus for Pleasant Valley School District for 7 years.

          

He was a former member of the volunteer fire department in Fremont and in Pleasant Valley where he was also trained as an emergency medical technician.

          

Maurice was a member of the former Pleasant Valley Lions Club and the LeClaire Lions Club. He was a faithful blood donor most of his adult life and enjoyed traveling, reading, hunting and water skiing and volunteered for 15 years for the Festival of Trees.

          

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Judith; his children, Laura (Greg) Grimes of Rochester, Michigan, Jamie (Jim) Smart of Boulder, Colorado, and Matthew (Jamie) Reber of Waukesha, Wisconsin; his grandchildren, Jessica, Julia, Evan, Emma and Kevin; his great-granddaughter, Mackenzie and a great-grandson expected soon.

          

Maurice was preceded in death by his sister, JoAnn, and his brothers, Byron and Bob.
