Maxine Karpan Green, 79, of Bettendorf, died Friday, January 6, 2016 at Manor Care, Utica Ridge in Davenport.

Maxine was born on August 15, 1937 in Keewatin, Minnesota, the daughter of John & Johanna (Anselmo) Karpan.  She graduated from Creighton University in 1959 with a degree in English and Education.

She was united in marriage to Dr. John F. “Fred” Green in 1960 and worked tirelessly for decades as a wife and mother to four boys.  She spent many years teaching at Pleasant Valley High School, received a Masters degree in Special Education from Marycrest College in 1985 and retired in 1999.

A lifetime collector of Russian antiques, she loved travelling, gardening, exercise, spending time outdoors and enjoying nature.  She also had a love for reading and a passionate interest in her sons and grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. Fred Green of Bettendorf; her sons, J.F. Green of Bettendorf, Dan (Janis) Green of Tracy, California and Steve (Melissa) Green of Indianola, Iowa; her daughter-in-law, Kris Green of Edina, Minnesota; her sister, Peggy (Merle) Robertson of Minneapolis, Minnesota; her sister-in-law, Elise Karpan of Grand Rapids, Minnesota; and her grandchildren, Madeline, Danielle, Abby, Annie, Ben, Hannah, Emily and Lucas.

Maxine was preceded in death by her brother, Daniel Karpan; and her son, Dr. Andrew Green.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Unitarian Universalist Church of Davenport or to the Pleasant Valley Athletics or Music Booster Clubs.
