Maxine (Nauman) Miller

January 18, 1921 — July 31, 2017

Maxine Edith Eva (Nauman) Miller, 96, formerly of LeClaire, passed away Monday, July 31, 2017 at her daughter’s home in New Windsor, Illinois.

Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, August 4, 2017 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Friday. Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church in Princeton, Iowa.

Maxine was born on January 18, 1921the daughter of Max and Lidia (Ehling) Nauman in a farmhouse near Rockford, Iowa, the youngest daughter of 13 children. Leaving the farm, she moved to Seattle, Washington and got a job working for Boeing, becoming a “Rosie the Riveter,” working on B-24 and B-25 bomber planes, for most of World War II.

In Long Beach, California, she met the love of her life, Richard Miller, who was serving the Navy on the battleship Alabama. They were married June 15, 1946. He preceded her in death.

Maxine never had a weed in her garden, always had something to eat and drink for her visitors, and she enjoyed traveling. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Maxine was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan, attending home games for over 30 years.

Those left to honor her memory include her children, Richard (Deana) Miller of Colona, Illinois and Colleen McCaw of New Windsor, Illinois; grandchildren, Tim (Becky) Becker, Jamie Becker, Chris (Amy) Becker, Tom Becker, Becky (Brad) Gruhl, Rich (Stephanie) Miller, Lora (Marvin) Cooper, Chris (Jami) Gordon, and Kim (Paul) Proehl; 13 great-grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren, 2 step-great-great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Betty (Raymond) Miller.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and twelve siblings.
