Maxine Y. Ray

September 19, 1935 — May 11, 2023

Maxine Y. Ray, 87, formerly of Princeton, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at the Kahl Home in Davenport, Iowa.
Her memorial visitation will be held on Friday, May 26, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00  p.m.  at  McGinnis-Chambers Funeral  Home  in  Bettendorf, Iowa. Committal services will follow at the Rock Island National Cemetery.
Maxine was born September 19, 1935 in Madelia Village, Minnesota, the daughter of Harold & Clara (Schwingler) Simpson. She was united in marriage to Donald G. Ray on July 9, 1955 in Springfield, Illinois. He preceded her in death on April 27, 2009.
Many fond memories were made as Maxine and Don enjoyed camping with family and friends and traveling around the country. She will be remembered as a “neighborhood mother”, everyone was family to her and nobody ever went away hungry or spent a holiday alone. Maxine had been a successful realtor for many years and was truly appreciated by her clients. She also had been a girl scout leader in earlier years and is still fondly remembered by her “girls”. Maxine was an avid supporter of the churches she had attended over the years and volunteered her time to help with after-school programs.
Those left to honor her memory include her son, Brian (Linda) Ray of Blue Grass, Iowa and her daughters, Karen Byard of Rock Island, Illinois, Dawn Ray of Davenport and Linda (James) Frandsen of Davenport; her grandchildren, Eddie, Michelle, Emily, Kristin, Tiffanie, Kaleb, Meckenzie and Hayley; twenty-one great and great-great grandchildren; her brother, Richard (Nylene) Simpson of Madelia, Minnesota; a special “son”, Arnie (Teresa) Anderson of Taylor Ridge, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Don, Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Clara; and her sisters, Lois Beving and Pat Schmidtke.
The family wants to acknowledge Senior Star and the Kahl Home for their excellent care of Maxine.
