Maxine Mary Edwards, 86, a resident of Davenport, Iowa passed away on Friday, March 13, 2009 at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus in Silvis, Illinois.
Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 21, 2009 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Long Grove, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf and one hour before the service on Saturday at the church. Burial will be in St. Ann’s Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family.
Maxine was born March 20, 1922 in Mason City, Iowa the daughter of George and Mary (Roach) Denlinger. At the age of 5 she moved with her family to Zwingle, Iowa. She attended schools in Zwingle and later attended the University of Dubuque, Dubuque, Iowa and received a teaching degree. She was united in marriage to James W. Edwards on July 26, 1941. During her life, she and James resided in Moline, Bettendorf, Princeton and Davenport. Retirement years were spent in Zapata, Texas. James preceded her in death on March 8, 1992.
Maxine was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Long Grove. During her lifetime she bowled in several leagues in the Quad Cities, she also enjoyed playing cards, her flower gardens, quilting, gardening, canning, ceramics, visiting with her many friends and she especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
Maxine is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence and Nancy Edwards of Colona, Illinois; her daughter-in-law, Patricia Edwards, Moline; her sister, Viola Gray, Davenport; granddaughters Cholette (Steve) Carroll, Galva, Illinois and Cynthia (Christopher) Lancour, Coal Valley, Illinois; her grandsons, Thomas and Patty Edwards, Milan, Illinois, Timothy (Dawn) Edwards, Moline; and eight great-grandchildren, Amanda and Dylan Carroll, Talon and Paige Lancour, Adam and Nick Edwards and Allison and Alex Edwards.
In addition to her husband, James, she was preceded in death by her son, Gerald, her infant son, James Anthony, her infant granddaughter, Teresa and her brother Virgil Denlinger.
