Melodie Ann Smith, 59, of Bettendorf, Iowa, passed away on Monday, January 2, 2017 at Trinity UnityPoint Health in Bettendorf after a month-long illness.
She has asked to be cremated and a spring memorial service will take place on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at North Lawn Cemetery in Fort Dodge.
Melodie was born April 29, 1957 in Fort Dodge to Van L. & Betty (Thoreson) Smith. She graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1975. She graduated from Iowa State University in 1979 and moved to Davenport soon after. She had worked for Walgreens, Kwik Shop and Hy-Vee before retiring in 2009 due to ill health.
Melodie enjoyed reading, watching movies, computer games, surfing the internet and crafting.
Melodie is survived by her sister, Carol J. Jones of Fort Dodge; her significant other, Richard Henderson of Bettendorf; her beloved cats, Gunny & Gabby; two aunts; one uncle; and many cousins and their extended families.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her grandparents, Harry & Fern Smith, Myrtle Ault, Henry Thoreson and her favorite cat, Floyd.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of her sister. May we all be reminded of everything we have gained from sharing in the life of one so special that she will always and forever be remembered with love.
