Melvia Ewoldt

August 8, 1918 — October 13, 2020

Melvia M. Ewoldt, 102, of Eldridge, passed away on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at Grand Haven Retirement Community, Eldridge.

Private family graveside services will be held at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery.  Chambers Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.  Memorials may be directed to Faith Lutheran Church or to the Humane Society of Scott County.

Melvia was born on a farm near Maysville on August 8, 1918, the daughter of Emil and Wilma (Griebel) Burmeister.  On March 23, 1940, she was united in marriage to Arno J. “Barney” Ewoldt at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Davenport.  They moved into their new home in Eldridge that was built by her husband.   They were blessed with three children, Suzanne, Gary, and Jane.  Melvia was a homemaker all her life.  She prided herself on her cooking skills, as encouraged by Barney.  In earlier years, she and Barney loved to dance.  She was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church, Eldridge, and she belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary.

Melvia loved her home but moved to Grand Haven at the age of 100.  She was able to stay in her home for so long thanks to the special care provided by Chris and Krissy Johnston.  She especially loved Krissy’s daughter, Zoey.

Those left to honor her memory are her son, Gary (Carol) Ewoldt of Eldridge; her daughters, Sue Braack of Eldridge, Jane (Gary) Haase of Reno, Nevada; six grandchildren, Kim Hartman, Pam Witt, Stacy Braack, Betsy Weil, Ashley Gruter, Megan Gruter; and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; a grandson, Christopher Ewoldt; and son-in-law, Dale Braack.
