Melvin E. Letcher

Melvin E. (Mel) Letcher, 71, of DeWitt, Iowa, died October 15, 2003 at Trinity Medical Center, North Campus in Davenport, Iowa.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, October 19, 2003 at The Presbyterian Church, Fulton, Illinois. Chambers Funeral Home, Eldridge, Iowa is assisting the family with arrangements.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1954.
Mel worked in the computer field forty years for the following companies: Fidelity Life Association, Fulton, Illinois, Seifert’s Clothing chain, Washington, Iowa, the City of Marshalltown, Iowa and Farmer’s Co-op, Farnhamville, Iowa. He retired from the Clinton Community Schools as Data Processing Manager in 1995.
He was an avid bowler and horseshoe pitcher, winning many trophies and awards.
Mel participated in United Methodist Mission Works trips to Oklahoma, Mississippi, Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee and Louisiana.
He is survived by his wife, Joan; daughters, Kristen (Tom) Irwin of Centerville, Iowa and Dina (Larry) Detlefsen of Charlotte, Iowa; sons, Kendal (Barb) Letcher of Washington, Iowa, Drew Letcher of Iowa City, Iowa and Klay (Nancy) Letcher of DeWitt, Iowa; eleven grandchildren; one step-grandchild; and a brother, Larry (Ruth) Letcher of Fulton, Illinois.
Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association, the American Heart Association or Sager Brown UMCOR, Baldwin, Louisiana through any United Methodist Church.
