Melvin V. “Bud” Nyenhuis, 88, of Davenport and formerly of Rock Island, IL & LeClaire, IA, died Thursday, July 29, 2004 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M to 2:00 P.M., Monday, August 2, 2004, at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Gravesite services will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Muscatine, IA. Memorials may be made to Ridgecrest Village.
Melvin was born on September 24, 1915 in Muscatine, the son of William & Barbara (Moser) Nyenhuis. He was a graduate of Muscatine High School and a lifelong member of First Baptist Church, Muscatine. Melvin was employed at International Harvester, Rock Island, as a tool dispenser for 32 years, retiring in 1972. Melvin had traveled extensively throughout the United States, notably attending the World’s Fair in New York City in 1939. He was a former member of U.A.W. Local 1309. He enjoyed working with tools, watching sporting activities, and taking photographs of nature scenes.
Those left to honor his memory include his sister, Florence Mark, of Davenport; his cousins, Jerry Jungman, Stuart, IA, Evelyn Dorothy, Davenport, and Jack Woods, Denver, CO. He was preceded in death by his sister, Elsie Groce.
