Meredith U. (Tucker) Deevers, 85, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died Saturday, August 28, 2004 at the Iowa Masonic Health Facility in Bettendorf.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 A.M. Thursday, September 2, 2004 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Bettendorf. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf, Iowa where a prayer service will be conducted at 7:30 P.M. Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
She was born April 16, 1919 in Illmo, Missouri, the daughter of Elliot & Ethel (Bishop) Tucker. On December 25, 1935, she was united in marriage to Theodore “Ted” Deevers in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Ted preceded her in death on July 23, 1995.
Meredith was a life-time member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a long-time member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. She represented Scott County on Governor Robert Ray’s Council of Social Services for seven years.
She owned & operated Meredith’s Millinery in Bettendorf in the late 50’s and early 60’s. Meredith helped design the original Holiday Inn employee uniforms in the early 60’s. In addition, she designed & sold hats for the Goldstein/O’Connor Company of Chicago in the 60’s. She was also a representative of the B. R. Martin Co., a women’s advertising agency in Skokie, Illinois.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughter, Veronica Deevers of Camanche, Iowa; her sons, Howard Deevers and Roger Deevers, both of Tucson, Arizona; eleven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and her sister, Charleen McMikle of Jacksonville, Florida.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her infant son, John.
