Merle Brown

April 3, 1948 — September 7, 2020

Merle G. Brown, 72, of Bettendorf passed away on Monday, September 7, 2020 at the Iowa Masonic Home, Bettendorf.

Visitation will be Friday from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf.  Private graveside services will be held at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery.  Memorials may be directed to the American Legion – Post 26 or to the Humane Society of Scott County.

Merle was born on April 3, 1948 in Davenport, the son of Elmer and Hazel (Hansen) Brown.  Following his graduation from Central High School in 1966, he served in the U.S. Navy.  Merle retired after 40 years from Linwood Stone where he worked as a scale master.  He enjoyed hosting pool parties and setting off firework displays for friends and family.  He had a love of dogs, but above all he loved spending time with his nieces and nephews.

Those left to honor his memory are his sisters, Elaine Miller of Rushville, Nebraska, Barb Loncarich of Bettendorf, Nancee (Tom) Moffit of LeClaire, Iowa, Shirley (DeWayne) Blank of Long Grove, Iowa; numerous nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jim Brown.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff at the Iowa Masonic Home and to Genesis Hospice for their exceptional care and compassion.
