Merritt "Keith" Mitchell, 65, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died at Pathway Hospice in Bettendorf in the arms of his loving wife, Margie and surrounded by his children on Friday, January 27, 2006, the 30th anniversary of his father's death.
His funeral service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Monday, January 30, 2006 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf. Interment will be private. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family.
He was born December 6, 1940 in Pontiac, Illinois, the son of Merritt B. & Mildred B. (Tracy) Mitchell. He formerly lived in Avon, Illinois and was a 1959 graduate of Avon High School. On October 22, 1967, he was united in marriage to Margaret L. Hicks at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Davenport, Iowa.
Keith is a retiree from the John Deere Plow & Planter Works in Moline, Illinois where he worked 21 years and from the John Deere Parts Distribution Center in Milan, Illinois where he worked for 9 years.
His passions were sports, especially the St. Louis Cardinals. He also loved "oldies" rock & roll music, was an avid reader and enjoyed geneology.
Keith was co-owner of ABC Collectibles in Moline and owner of Rock Island Sports, Music and Collectibles for over 12 years.
Those left to honor his memory and forever miss his "music" are his wife, Margaret; his son, James P. (Donna) Mitchell of Davenport; his daughters, Denice F. Mitchell (Phil Campbell) of Princeton, Iowa and Sharon K. Mitchell of Coos Bay, Oregon; his eight beautiful grandchildren, Jayme (Al) Leiby of Thetford, England, Nicholaus Bahrenburg, Chaz Mitchell, Noah Mitchell, Dylan Mitchell, Korbin Mitchell, Kourtni Mitchell and Suzanne Mitchell; and his brother, Francis (Marlene) Mitchell of Abington, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, June; and his loving son, Vincent T. Mitchell.
In addition to his family, many friends and relatives, Keith leaves behind his beloved "Foxy Lady" who fill his last days with joy & unconditional love.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Joel Moore, R.N. and the staff of Pathway Hospice for their love and support during this difficult time.
