Michael J. Fisher, 70, of Bettendorf, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, November 10, 2022 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus in Davenport, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 14, 2022 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Bettendorf Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
Mike was born August 2, 1952 in Davenport, the son of Jerome & Nona (Klingbeil) Fisher-Endlich. He was a graduate of Davenport West High School and completed the Law Enforcement course of study at Scott Community College in April 1973. Mike was at the top of his class at the Davenport Police Academy and received scholastic honors.
He began his law enforcement career as a police officer in LeClaire, Iowa before joining BPD. In 2006, Mike was honored as police officer of the year. During his career, Mike spent 15 years working security at the Bettendorf Hy-Vee. He retired in 2012 at almost 39 years of service with the Bettendorf Police Department.
Following retirement, Mike worked as a courier with MetroLab and with Green Buick as a shuttle driver.
Mike was united in marriage to Penny S. Weis on February 19, 1977 in Davenport. He was an avid fisherman and golfer, loved the Iowa Hawkeyes, and watching sports, especially baseball, with his grandsons. He and Penny were members of the Illowa Irregulars Cowboy Action Shooting Club and enjoyed participating in cowboy shooting matches together.
In his earlier years, Mike was involved in several bowling leagues, played broomball, and enjoyed designing track layouts for his HO scale train collection.
A loving father and grandfather, Mike could always be found attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and extra-curricular activities, providing encouragement and advice. He also stepped in and assisted with coaching when needed.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Penny: his daughters, Jennifer (Justin) Hovey of Bettendorf and Michelle Fisher and her fiancé, Jason King of Reynolds, Illinois; his grandchildren, Owen Hovey, Emelia Hovey, Isaiah Litscher, Brody King and Carsen King; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Ron & Jane Weis of Bettendorf and Steve & Bert Weis of Davenport; and a special childhood friend, Mike (Diane) Maxwell of Muscatine, Iowa.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father, George Endlich Jr.; and his daughter, Kimberly Fisher.
