Michael P. Gleason, 52, a resident of LeClaire, Iowa died unexpectedly Saturday, May 8, 2010.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at Our Lady of the River Catholic Church, LeClaire, Iowa. A celebration of life gathering will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf, Iowa. Memorials may be made to the family for an education fund for Michael’s grandson, Braden Michael Gilliland.
Michael was born April 9, 1958 in Davenport, Iowa the son of E. Orville and Yvonne (Warren) Gleason. He was a graduate of Pleasant Valley High School and attended Scott Community College. He was united in marriage to Vickie A. Murray at Our Lady of the River Catholic Church on June 30, 1978.
Michael had worked in production at Caterpillar and Oscar Mayer; he was a police officer in Princeton, Iowa, an animal control officer in LeClaire and was the Mayor of LeClaire. He was most passionately an entrepreneur with his proudest endeavor having owned and operating the V.M.S. Video store in LeClaire.
He was a member of the LeClaire Jaycees holding nearly all offices including President. He was also a C.A.S.A. (Court Appointed Special Advocates) representative.
He was a very jovial person and never met anyone he didn’t like. He enjoyed NASCAR; bingo, the river boats, fishing, camping, loved to roller skate when he was younger and was a movie enthusiast. He was very competitive and unbeatable at board games. He loved to be around people and most of all enjoyed being with his family and grandson.
Those left to honor his memory include his loving wife, Vickie Gleason, LeClaire, Iowa; his daughter, Stacey (Michael) Gilliland, Milan, Illinois; his grandson, Braden Gilliland; his parents, E. Orville and Yvonne Gleason, Davenport, Iowa; his brother, Donald (Dawn) Gleason, LeClaire; his nieces and nephews, Christine, Scott, Mathew, Patrick, Brooke, Blake, Madison, Morgan, Scott Jr., Christina, Stephanie, James Jr., Murphy and Louis and their families; and Terese Gleason, Davenport. He is also survived by many special friends and loved ones.
He was preceded in death by his sister and best friend, Carol Anderson, his father-in-law, James L. Murray and his close friend David Miller.
