Mifflin G. “Meff” Funk, 94, of Bettendorf, died Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at UnityPoint Health in Bettendorf.
His visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, April 13, 2015 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Private graveside services will be held at Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the family.
Mifflin was born February 6, 1921 in Tipton, Iowa, the son of Mifflin W. & Emma (Kuehl) Funk. He served in the United States Army during WWII. During his service, he served in the Eastern Mandates, Western Pacific, Southern Philippines, Luzon, Ryukyus and as part of the air offensives in Japan. Mifflin was united in marriage to Lorraine M. Paustian on November 28, 1946 in Davenport.
Meff was a toll-taker on the former Iowa/Illinois Memorial Bridge when it was a single span and then a double span. He was then employed with Bowe Machine. He enjoyed bowling, golfing and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs and Bears. He also enjoyed his Wednesday evenings at the former Tiddley Tap with his friends from Bowe. He was also a member of the V.F.W. Post 9128 of Bettendorf. Meff had the privilege of attending an Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in April of 2010.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughters, Nancy Capshaw of Bettendorf and Holly (Ned) Jeffrey of Fairfield, Iowa; his son, Jon Funk of Bettendorf; his grandchildren, Julie Capshaw and Jason (Michelle) Krieger; his great-grandchildren, Alec, Brendan, Cooper & Reilly; his sister, Eva Moeller of Costa Mesa, California; and his brother, Chet Funk of Davenport.
In addition to his wife, Lorraine, he was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Pauline, Alma & Marie; and his brothers, Richard, Cecil & John.
