Mildred Louise Nickelson, 96, a resident of Knoxville, Tennessee, formerly of LeClaire, died Thursday, February 25, 2016 in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Burial will be at Glendale Cemetery in LeClaire. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Wednesday. Memorials may be made to Wounded Warriors.
Born on November 17, 1919 in LeClaire, Mildred was the daughter of Lester Lee and Louise Loutische (Massey) Ballard. She married Lawrence William Nickelson. He preceded her in death on February 20, 2004.
Mildred was a homemaker for most of her life and worked as a beautician in her younger years. She was a graduate of LeClaire High School where she played basketball and sang in a musical group. She enjoyed painting. Mildred loved playing golf and although not the best on the fairway she was an excellent putter.
Those left to honor her memory include her son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Gloria Nickelson of Powell, Tennessee; grandchildren, Mark Dennis Nickelson, II, Tamara Michelle Worthy and Dawn Rene Nickelson; seven great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Mary Phillips, Betty Marley, and Adda Little all of Bettendorf.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Nicholas Maurice Nickelson; sisters, Catherine Calhoun;Darlene Speer; Alta Hudgens, and a brother, Lester Ballard, Jr.
